Rockstar:Supernova, Episode 6

I see that the real Brooke has returned with her slutty and tacky clothes.  Oh well, it was a nice hiatus.

So we recap the reality show.  Magni's family arrives.  Zayra says that she wears those costumes for her.  Yeah right.  The fact that Jason lusts every week and she has yet to be eliminated has nothing to do with it.  Lukas says he is going to do heartfelt this week.  Toby says that he wanted to play with Gilby but if he botches the song, then it could really backfire.  He is so weak.  Dilana is amazed that no one fought her for the song with Gilby.  Josh said it backfired for Patrice to take the song with Tommy, so it is not always good to take the song with the band member.  Verrrrry interesting...but stupid.  Everyone should be fighting for that song.  If you can't cut it, you should be out anyway, which is exactly what it showed with Patrice.  I like Patrice, but I do not think that she could front this band.

Dilana downloads the song and gets a personal video message from Gilby saying that this is one of his favorite songs.  No pressure there.

Dave is stunned that no one fought to play with Gilby.  They told them last week that they all should have fought for Tommy.  Dave just said that if it were up to him, Dilana would win right now.  I agree in that respect, but I don't think that Dave watched the reality show with Dilana's lyrics.  For those of you who missed it, you can check my blog to see just how awful I thought it was; but I really do encourage you to go check it out for yourself.  It is horrendous.

Dilana: "Won't Get Fooled Again", The Who

She has that intense face on right now.  Gilby apparently has a guitar cam.  I am not a Who fan, so the song was just ok to me.  I did not feel the energy that I thought should be there.  The guitar solos were cool.  I can see why Gilby likes it as a guitarist.  Dilana didn't disappear with Gilby either, so that is good.  I think that she has the ability to front the band and the band is pleased with her, but we have seen her weakness now with songwriting.  I think that if Lukas pulls off "Creep" tonight, then the contest is over.  Period.

Comments:

Dilana says that was fun.  Dave said that looked like a rock show.  Then he says, hey guys, like it didn't suck enough to follow Dilana before; now you have to follow her and Gilby.  That has to suck.  Hopefully they have all learned their lesson now about fighting for the song with the band member.  Dilana said playing with him was a dream come true.  Gilby says she is a star and he now has no doubt that a woman can front their band.  All the girls smile.  Jason says that can be added to the "Rockstar:Supernova Killer Moments List."  Maybe I am just off, who knows.

Grade: B+ (For anyone else it might have been an A, but she has set the bar too high for herself to achieve an A from this performance.)

Jill: "Mother, Mother", Tracy Bonham

This song sounded fine until she took the power out of the chorus.  Jason is not pleased.  I think she missed the point of this song.  The point, Jill, is that everything is NOT fine.  This was the one opportunity when she could have screamed the lyrics and not have been labeled as oversinging.  She gets more clueless each week.  She just jumped off stage and kicked the power back into the song.  She should have stuck with this way the whole song.  Her creative choices suck.

Comments:

Dave says he feels like he is watching Carmela Soprano and he is afraid to say anything negative because he might get whacked.  Don't let that stop you Dave.  Tommy says best performance to date.  Well done.  Jason says the physical performance was good, but you lost your voice moving around.  You need to be able to do both.

Grade: C-

Ryan: "Paint It Black", The Rolling Stones

I actually like this Stones song.  He does a good job, although I fail to understand the black eyes.  Shouldn't his whole face be painted black?  Great performance all around, as much as it kills me to say that.

Comments:

Dave says what happened to you?  The entrance and the reveal, that was unbelievable.  I think you just showed us that you are a contender.  Tommy labels it interesting, then says dope.  Gilby says you have started killing it the last few weeks; I don't know what happened.  Tommy says he got laid after the R.E.M. performance.  Jason says this is good if this is tip of the iceberg.

Grade: A+

Storm: "We Are the Champions", Queen

Tommy is singing along, but I am not sure if he likes it or not.  I am not sure that this was the best choice after last week.  The band seeks change and this is very similar in style to last week.  That being said, I really enjoyed this performance.  I think that this is the best cover that I have seen of this song and she refrained from the freaky eye thing.  Although she did have to close her eyes to prevent it.  Her face and nature are very emotive.  Very good performance overall.

Comments:

Dave says it is difficult to do Queen justice and I think that you did great.  Dave says it showed your range and power.  Jason says that the arrangement was awesome and Queen would have approved.  Tommy says he still wants to see her rock it.  She shuts Tommy up when she responds that she will spank the crap out of him later.

Grade: A

Zayra: "All the Young Dudes", David Bowie

Magni is on guitar.  I think that I have become numb to her slutty outfits.  After last week, this one seems fairly tame.  It at least covers her body.  Her accent is coming through.  Dave is standing and singing along.  She does a good job on the song.  But bottom line, she still does not fit in.

Comments:

Dave said you would win by a landslide, if this were Rockstar:Planet Pluto.  Gilby says he likes the showmanship, but you were flat a lot.  Tommy says you have the confidence.  Jason asks if she wowed herself.  She responds that this is the biggest chance of her life and she is all out.

Grade: B

Josh: "Interstate Love Song", Stone Temple Pilots

Tommy stops him before he starts to come rock with him.  He dropped a line.  He does ok, but it does not compare to the original.  He does get credit for doing a real rock song this week.

Comments:

Dave has it exactly right, he did a good job, but that might not be good enough at this point.  Jason asks how was it?  Josh says he liked it.  Tommy says the guitar freezes you.  Gilby says that I was waiting for this song from day 1 from you.  Good job.  Jason warns that they may jump in with anyone at anytime.

Grade: B+

Magni: "The Dolphin's Cry", Live

His baby has on ear protection.  Good example.  He shushes the crowd.  This is amazing.  I am mesmerized and there is nothing else to say.  He quite possibly just became sexy to millions of women.

Comments:

Dave says congrats to being the first to go it alone and deliver a song like that.  Amazing.  Tommy asks about his family.  Magni says it was phenomenal to have them here.  Gilby says really good and you have inspired everyone.

Grade: A+

Patrice: "Instant Karma", John Lennon

Can her smile get bigger?  I guess that she does not want to seem angry this week.  She blames her bottom three placement on that.  Jason does not look happy.  This was a very average performance again.  She has a style that fits her very well, but it gets old after a while.

Comments:

Dave says excellent song choice, good job.  Gilby says we know that you have been disappointed being in the bottom three and I don't think that you deserved it last week.  Good job.  Tommy says well done.

Grade: C

Lukas: "Creep", Radiohead

One of my all time favorite songs; he better do it justice.  I hate the leaning stance.  Goosebump alert.  LOVED IT!  He rocked it out.  Contest over.

Comments:

Tommy says oh yeah, he got goosebumps.  Dilana looks like she is going to be sick.  She is mad.  Dave asks where has that guy been hiding.  It was unbelievable.  Gilby says that he was caught off-guard and that was a great surprise.  Jason says that this is what he was talking about.  Please continue that way.

Grade: A++++

Toby: "Burning Down The House", Talking Heads

He made this song sound like rock, so I give him props there.  Dave is like what's up with the megaphone?  Good performance.

Comments:

Dave says great vocals, great performance until the megaphone.  It has been done a million times.  Toby says I wanted to show you that I could take an old song and make it fresh.  (Bet he doesn't try that again since Dave got on him.)  Tommy and Jason don't mind the megaphone.  Gilby says it is nice to change it up.  Great job.

Grade: A

So the bottom three at the end of the show are:

Jill

Zayra

Patrice

America agrees with my assessment so far.  These were the three that I put in the bottom.  We'll see tomorrow what happens.

Rockstar:Supernova, Reality Show Week 6

So this week the contestants have to write original lyrics to a Supernova track.  This should really help to separate out the good from the bad.  Songs have to be original in rock, so being able to write lyrics is a must.

Part 1: Songwriting Clinic

We recap last week's performances.  Gilby had a very strong point that they all should have fought to the death to play with Tommy Lee.  I think that a lot of them realize that they cannot do a lot of these songs justice and just want to skate through as far as they can.  Like Dave said, a lot of them will disappear in front of this band and I think that they know that.

Back at the mansion everyone toasts Dana and says how far she came.  Lukas says she knew that she had to go, but she did learn a lot.  Toby says that he is confused about how Patrice ended up in the bottom three.  Honestly, her performance was ok, but it did not compare to the Peppers' version.  It showed how she seems average performing at that intensity.  Ultimately her voice was not suited for that song, so she failed.  Patrice thinks maybe she looked too angry.  I am not sure what she was referring to, unless it was about the Tommy Lee comment from Ryan.  Josh says, you looked happy.  Dilana says it could be a hundred things.  Patrice can't seem to understand how or why she got there.  Jill says she does not want to go home.  DUH!  Then Ryan claims that Brooke asked if she could lay on the piano while he played.  Puh-leeze!  I don't think that Brooke would give him the time of day were she not required by contract.  toby smears something in Ryan's face after he congratulates him on the encore.  Then he takes off as everyone cheers.  Ryan alludes to revenge while Toby sleeps.

Then they all hear a motorcycle.  Gilby comes in and Dilana is jumping up and down.  Gilby says he has a present for the final 10.  More Gibson guitars.  Lukas reads the note from Gibson.  Dilana says it was unbelievable.

Gilby says we have another songwriting clinic.  Gilby starts playing the song.  Ryan says he remembered this song and he was excited about this "catchy, little fun song."  Gilby says you need individual lyrics to this song by tomorrow and laughs.  Storm goes, oh dude.  Dilana liked that it would be an individual challenge, because she wants Supernova to know that there is so much more to her.  Supernova will be there tomorrow to listen to the results.

Part 2: Writing Lyrics and Performing

Lukas says he really liked the song.  It made him feel like he was in a really beat up fast car and just blast it.  He says they each had an uninterrupted evening to compose their lyrics and then we hear some of his.  He says it took him 15 minutes.  Then he makes a profound statement, songs that you overthink tend to be overthought.  He continues, your first guess is your best one.  The lyrics sound ok.

Then Lukas goes to visit Toby.  He has written some lyrics, but he is unsure of the title.  He and Lukas agree that disease is a strong word and Toby says that he hates to love it.  He continues that the whole point of songwriting  is that it provides an insight into the writer.  It requires you to be vulnerable.  Toby's lyrics sound good.

Dilana is bouncing her song off Magni.  Her lyrics sound stupid.  She says that this songwriting is a challenge.  The pressure of wanting to be good and wanting to doubt yourself.

Storm says that the track was so dirty and gritty and grindy that she wanted to get really physically with it.  So she went running.  Pan through Josh and Jill writing.  Then Zayra says that some of us take five minutes, some of us will take years.  Hello! You have one night, but we all know that you can't write anyway, so pack your bags.

Ryan says that this is the first time that he has written lyrics and meldoies to a completed work.  So he either composes everything from scratch or he is just a the front for a cover band.  I figure the cover band is the right angle, and not a good one either.  Lukas walks in and says the track is hype.  Ryan is intimidated when Lukas says that he is done.  Ryan says that he was a fish out of water because this was not his process when he writes a song.  Lukas wants Ryan to hear his song and Ryan says when I finish.  Way to put the pressure on; way to go Lukas!  Ryan says that the two of them are really good friends, but on the music side, they are totally opposite.  I could not agree more with that statement.  Ryan says it is hard for him to concentrate when Lukas is singing and that he feels like Lukas is disregarding Ryan's style of songwriting.  Cry baby!

So they all start psyching each other out with Lukas being the band leader.  Lukas asks how everyone is doing.  Dilana says that she loves her song.  She is so happy.

Ryan says that he spent more time on his song than everybody else.  This is his only purpose here.  He could drink and party, but he stayed up until 2 or 3 in the morning writing.  This could also be called lack of natural talent, but that is just me.  So Ryan claims to be almost done and Lukas says let's freestyle.  Lukas starts jammin out and Ryan covers his face.  He says he realized at that point that he was going to have to deal with Lukas again.  Ryan walks out.

Morning breaks and Gilby returns.  He asks did anyone have trouble, was a day enough time?  Dilana says more than enough.  Ryan looks scared.  Toby says it was good.  Ryan fails to understand how everyone else did it so quickly.  (Called talent.)  Patrice says sometimes the best songs are intuitive.  Tommy says some of my best stuff has been written in less than 10 minutes.  Ryan is going to be sick.  This is so sweet.  Jason says that this is what really matters to him today, because it lets them see what people are made of.  Gilby says that it will show the whole package.

Ryan is up first.  It sounds awful.  Jason says his personal style showed through this time.  (Read: Awful.)  Jason says his voice cuts through the music well.  I disagree there.  the music seemed to drown him out.  He says that he would like to hear him on some other Supernova tracks to gage where he is at.  Here Jason, let me help, the end.  Next!

Storm starts bouncing.  Gilby says that Storm is always elaborate, but she really did something melodic.  Then Jill starts yelling into the mic.  This is not what anyone wants to listen to.  It is obvious that Tommy is not impressed.  He says that Jill is an amazing singer that overdoes everything.  (Read: Probable elimination.)  Jason hates the high screaming note.  She just keeps getting worse each week.

Gilby says that Toby's lyrics were flowing rhythmically with the tune.  It sounds the best so far.  Gilby says Dilana's was interesting.  It sounds awful.  Jason says the lyrics were "cornball."  I agree they are stupid.  I am beginning to think that she cannot write lyrics.  She wrote with Lukas the first week and this is awful.  Magni is embaressed for her.  Tommy can't even speak the lyrics are so bad.    He said that they were forgettable, which is awful.  Did I mention that this was awful?

Lukas is up next.  He says that he thought his song rocked.  It was dirty and sexy, like himself.  Tommy said Lukas killed it.  Ryan looks sick.  This sounds really good.  Tommy says he gets it.

Jason commends everyone.  Tommy says it was fun to hear everyone.  Then they adjourn.

Part 3: Song Selection

Storm says she misses her brother and then Magni's family shows up.  It is a very touching scene.  Dilana walks into the Supernova room.  She removes them all and takes them out to the dining toom table.  Gilby is playing on a song and Dilana wants it.  No one else does.  Toby says, well I want it, but I won't do it justice.  (Am I psychic or what?)  What idiots, she says.  After that debacle she penned, I think she might not ought to throw stones.

Ryan says that this is not a house of brilliant strategists; this is a house of musicians.  Then you are more stupid than I thought, which was very hard.  There are several people playing head games here, some rather well.

Dilana is talking to Lukas and says she wants to play with Gilby, even though she does not know the song.  She wants to show him what it is like with a chic on stage without any bumping and grinding.  She says that she is going to headbutt him.  Ok.  We'll just see about that.  Dilana suggests "Creep" for Lukas, because he needs a ballad; the band wants to hear his voice.  That is one of my all time favorite songs.  He better do it justice if he chooses it.  She says that she felt compelled to tell Lukas to do "Creep", because it is a tough song to sing.  She wants to know if Lukas can sing and give her goosebumps.  She has never had goosebumps from Lukas.  Ok, this is not American Idol.  Dana went home, so we should not be confused anymore.  Rockstar performances may give goosebumps, but the overwhelming feeling I want from a performance is YEAH! THAT ROCKED!  I want energy, like his "Rebel Yell" performance.  That was it.  Supernova will expect some ballads to be sung, but I really think that Lukas can do it.  He just has to be motivated to.  So they go back in to the room.  She says that she feels if he can't pull it off, then he shouldn't be here.  I would say the same thing about songwriting though.  I think that she had the worst song that we saw.  Those lyrics were unacceptable by rock standards.  Weezer, maybe.

They close with Lukas practicing "Creep".  Chills baby, all I am saying.

Part 4: The Credits

The rehearsals do not look promising for Lukas and Patrice.  Dilana jokes with Gilby about grinding on him.  It closes with the guys playing basketball.

Rockstar:Supernova, Week 5 Results

Brooke went another week without looking slutty.  We have reached a whole new level.  I am so proud.  Plus, I really like her shirt.  Chris is shocked that I actually like something that she wore.

So we recap last week's shows.  Back at the mansion, Lukas did not feel like celebrating after his sucky performance.  He says he forgot most of the lyrics.  He says he had a bad night, like everyone has.  Lukas claims to know his downside now to Ryan.  Ryan says I can feel that, because I was there last week.  I experienced that in week's 1-3 and Lukas did in week 5.  Ryan, please shut up and go home.  I hate you.  You are not near the same caliber as Lukas.  Chris is calling lukas arrogant.  Yes, he is.  I think (and if you remember) and Dave agrees that arrogance is needed for these performances.  You cannot question yourself in front of Supernova or you will disappear.  Ryan said that Lukas lost some of his sparkle, swagger and edge tonight.  Still not enough of an opening for you Ryan.  Lukas, Storm, and Dilana would have to dro dead before you would have half a chance at this.  Lukas said that he deserves to be in the bottom three.  Unfortunately, I agree.  His performance sucked, but he knows it and I think that he will rectify it in future performances.  (Unless my theory on him doing this on purpose proves to hold water.)  He then says, "The one song that sounds like Supernova, I have to screw up. Stupid."  I agree.  This song is the closest fit that they have given to their music, but really Lukas has made other songs fit their style too.  So I think that he will survive.

Dave says, Lukas, you had this thing locked.  What happened?  Lukas said, it was my turn to screw up, but it won't happen again.  I deserve to be in the bottom three for this performance, but I know that I can perform well enough to survive.  Way to go man!  If you will note what Dave said (and maybe I am reading too much into it, but I doubt it), Lukas had this competition locked up.  Dilana is good, but refer to my first blog on why they will not choose a girl.  Jill has made another good case for that over the past few weeks too.  Dave compliments Lukas' hair, which is not spiked up tonight.  I like it too.  He is actually quite an attractive guy.  (He has a foreign enough look for my taste.)  Although I am not so into the makeup.

Dave says Dana did you get a tatoo?  She goes yeah! and shows us a treble clef.  Dave had to ask what it was.  What better to do than what is in her soul?  To use Chris' words, that is so indicative.  She is just searching for another formula.  This one required a tatoo.  Is it a temp?  Probably.

Gilby talks to Ryan.  He says why didn't all of you fight to play for Tommy.  He says well we didn't want to choose just to be choosing Tommy, but after seeing it it was a steroid shot to anyone that sang behind him.  Then he credits Patrice and expresses regrets.  Dave said good answer.

Dave then asks Patrice how it was to perform with Tommy.  She says her only regret is that she could not watch simultaneously.  Dave says will the risk of being up there payoff?  Patrice says if you can't pull it off, then you shouldn't be here.

Tommy talks to Magni.  He comments about Magni's family and "little monkies".  Magni says we are moving to Iceland, right?  They laugh and say no.  He says it will work.  Not sure that they are convinced or am I.

Jason says some people stepped it up.  Who thinks they deserve the encore tonight?  Everyone should be raising their hands.  Even Lukas to get a chance to redeem his performance, granting out Chris' comment that he learned the words since last night.  Jason says he wanted to see a lot more hands on that.  FYI, Dana, Storm, Zayra, Ryan, and Toby ended up raising their hands.  He says you need confidence.  It is our show so we will decide that Ryan gets it.

Ryan: "Losing My Religion", R.E.M.

I don't like it as well.  He changed it some more.  Still intense, but not as good as last night.

Grade: A-

Dana, Zayra, Toby, Patrice, and Jill were in the bottom three at some point.  Dave says he is surprised to see Toby and not see Lukas up there based on last night's performances.

So the bottom three are:

Jill: "Alone", Heart

Gilby says here we go again.  I think that you sing amazing, but the voters keep putting you here.  She nails it.  The guys are standing.  I am not sure that she could nail all the performances that would be required from her of a band like Supernova.  Very good performance, but you can't always tell if Supernova will base elimination on performance only.

Dana and Toby both decided to skip practice with the band for elimination night.  Not a good sign.  NEVER skip practice unless you already have the job.  Even then it can be iffy if the band has a chance to survive without you.  Dave is not pleased and neither is Jason.

Dana: "House of the Rising Sun", The Animals

Jason asked why did you miss rehearsal.  She said she was at a spa.  He says that is so rock and roll.  Dave suggests winning by default.  Jason says, well I hope that it doesn't come back to haunt you.  Dana says she chose this classic guitar song and put a modern vibe to it.

I love this song.  I hate the way that she has changed it.  This is not the right sound for the band.  She is trying to play the sexy seductress again.    Gilby is not impressed with this version either.

Grade: C

Side note:  Apparently this song is considered a U.S. folk song.  The oldest known existing recording is from 1934.  I listed my favorite artist and probably the best known version to at least my generation of this song.

Patrice: "Eternal Life", Jeff Buckley

Apparently America did not like it and agreed that Patrice would be eaten up by the band.  Tommy says he thought that they were awesome.  Patrice says she loves this band and is going to do her best.  She is singing a tribute to one of the "greatest rockers of our generation."  I like this song and think that it is probably one of the most fitting that she has sang for the band.

Grade: B+

So Gilby says they have a new assignment for the survivors: write the lyrics and melody to a new Supernova track.  He says Jill you have made some horrible creative choices, but tonight you saved yourself.  Go sit down.  Dana, we like how you are developing but we are not sure that there is enough time.  Patrice, we think that you are a good singer and performer, but with Tommy behind you and you atill in the bottom three, it is hard to ignore.

Tommy says Dana you have come so far, but you have a lot further to go.  You are eliminated.  Dana says that this is the best experience ever and had so many firsts here.

Jason says that she brings such a positive fun energy to the house and competition.  You will go far.  He addresses everyone and says that we are watching how you are all handling this competition.  Look at how she is handling this, because we know you are all singers and performers.

Everyone knew that she had to go, so no real surprise.

Rockstar:Supernova, Episode 5

Chris is insisting that we watch Rockstar:Supernova tonight at the hotel, so I am going to flow the show (old debate term).  I am a little rusty, so if I miss a few things, I apologize.  I will correct any errors this weekend when I get home.  Here we go.

So Brooke's outfit is tacky, but not slutty, so she gets half credit.  I do hate her hair though.  It does not work with the outfit.

What is Tommy doing with the huge seal clap?  He must be high.  Then Jason imitates, probably mocking him.  What does Dave have?  Is that a gargoyle or what?  Strange, and then he kisses it.

We recap last week's episodes.  We see Magni's baby again.  Then Lukas brings out the songs.  The discussion over Tommy Lee playing on "Higher Ground" ensues.  Josh wants it and Patrice too, but Josh says that he will do it Stevie Wonder style, which is probably not what Supernova wants.  So he concedes the song to Patrice and takes "Santeria."  Then Ryan starts going "Tommy Lee" to Patrice.  She asks him to stop and he labels her a *itch.  then we break to live where is she is shocked.  She gets to open the show.

Patrice: "Higher Ground", Stevie Wonder, Red Hot Chili Peppers Version

I do not like the mohawk action.  It seems fake.  Her voice is not right for this song.  It is too good.  Tommy Lee is definitely rocking it out.  This is definitely stretching for her.  Just not a good fit gor her.

Comments:  Tommy calls it insane.  Dave says great vocals, power, energy, but Tommy Lee will cause 8 of you to disappear.  You are changing it up, good job.  Tommy said that was fun and I can't judge you because I go off in my own world.  He says she killed it.  Gilby respects that she did it and she did an awesome job.  I think that Dave said she is one of the ones that disappear.

Grade: B+

Josh: "Santeria", Sublime

He dropped the first line.  Hello? I don't think that this is much of a stretch for Josh.  Lukas is just sitting there.  I hate the crowd singing.  Josh can definitely sing songs of this style, but it is not a fit for Supernova.

Comments: Dave says did great, sounded great, no one cares that you dropped the first line.  (Apparently, it's just me.)  Tommy says that he loves his singing and he was jammin.  He thought about Jamaica.  Jason says his musicality is awesome and has a "certain caliber to it."  Jason wants to make sure that he brings his thing, which is all that he has done to this point.

Grade: B-

Dilana: "Can't Get Enough", Bad Company

She has on mostly see-through pants.  She goes and sings right in front of the guys and then rides on someone's shoulders back to stage.  She definitely rocks out the stage performance, but I don't like the vocals on this performance.  Also the song seems ho-hum.

Comments: Dave says are those my pants?  He says she killed it.  Tommy loved it.  Gilby says one of the challenges is imagining one of you in front of us and you did it.  Sneaky, but good.

Grade: B+ (A+ performance, C on vocals/song)

Toby: "Pennyroyal Tea"

Gilby looks like he is trying to decide what to think.  It is not bad, but it would be filler at a concert.  This is not a performance to audition with.  Going into the crowd seems lame now.  It was not bad.  I actually think that it was a really good vocal performance, but the stage performance was so lacking that it really detracted.  It is still not memorable.

Comments:  Dave says it was good, but the audience thing was anti-climactic after Dilana.  Tommy says thanks for listening about changing it.  Jason likes letting the audience in.

Grade: B- (A on vocals, C- on stage performance)

Zayra: "867-5309/Jenny", Tommy Tutone

Is she wearing pants?  The band can't even think.  This is an interesting arrangement.  Lukas is laughing again.  Jason so wants to lay her.  Her dancing bothers me.  It makes Jason lust on the other hand.  Not a bad performance (minus the dancing), but still not a fit.  She definitely gets the shock value for outfits.

Comments:  Dave laughs.  He says he is going to need a minute to process.  Tommy says he needs six.  Hmm, I wonder what would take six minutes to do after seeing an outfit like that?  Dave says you change it every week, so I think that is why you stayed.  Gilby says, I think your vocals were off, but you change it up so we keep you around and we want to see if you are the one who should be  in front of (read: under) our band.  He refuses to match her outfits.  Tommy offers to mud wrestle.

Grade: B-

Magni: Coldplay, "Clocks"

Tommy apparently thinks that Coldplay rocks.  He does not have the range of Chris Martin, but overall not a bad song for his voice/style.  It is still not a fit though.  Just an ok performance.  Lukas liked it apparently.

Comments:  Jason says pure talent.  You set the bar for me.  Gilby says awesome.  Tommy says excellent.  How was it to miss those first steps of your baby?  Tommy says that they appreciate his sacrifice and that they are going to fly his family out to see him.  He says that he is going to go cry now.

Grade: B

Jill: "(Don't You) Forget About Me", Simple Minds

Screaming does not make it rock, FYI.  This is a bad cover.  Go with the arm-pumping.  Below average.

Comments:  Dave says that everyone needs a break, that would have been they went.  Tommy says you took the sexy out the song.  Gilby says she oversang and that she is better than that.

Grade: C

Ryan: "Losing My Religion", R.E.M.

He actually sounds really good.  I like the piano version.  It seems to make it stronger.  I don't like the harder part in the middle.  I think that he should have kept it softer there, like it was introspective.  But it definitely was his best performance to date.  Jason mouths WOW!

Comments: Dave says phenomenal, amazing, great performance, great musicianship on the piano, beautiful.  Jason says best performance to date.  Tommy says that he wrote a piano song for Supernova and he could hear Ryan's voice on the track.  (One track where he will work, not exactly a ringing endorsement.)  Then he says that track will get you laid.  Quite possibly.

Grade: A

Lukas: "Celebrity Skin", Hole

Gilby is disappointed.  Lukas keeps turning his back to the audience.  Jason is confused.  I wonder is he is trying to give up now after the Monday confessional.  This is not up to his normal performance.  He completely muted his stage presence.  It was too bad to think that he was actually trying.

Comments: Dave says that is his least favorite performance.  I agree totally.  You have a lot of credit with us, but this was bad.  Gilby called him on the stage performance.  Lukas claimed it was a "comfortability" with the lyrics and that he will learn from this performance.  Gilby says remember that.  We'll see what lesson he learned next week.

Grade: C-(B on vocals, F on stage performance)

Storm: "Changes", David Bowie

This is amazing.  Gilby just mouthed that.  Awesome.  Nothing else to say.

Comments:  Jason stands.  Dave says his favorite performance to date.  She stood there and delivered; none of the crazy possessed by the music eyes thing.  EXACTLY!  Finally someone else notes that that is freaky.  Great job.  Gilby says it was risky, but great.  Jason says he would trade the overdramatic performances anyday for this classiness.

Grade: A+

Dana: "Baba O'Riley", The Who

She has mastered the look at least.  Her stage performance has improved.  Jason is arm-pumping.  Smile [:)]  Tommy does not look impressed.  Better.

Comments: Dave says great song choice; he loves The Who.  He was worried when he heard she chose this song, because it could really show her weakness.  But he thought that it was good.   Tommy asks why this song?  She says she could deliver it and bom-bom-bom.  Tommy likes it and says there is hope yet.  Gilby says that song is about rebellion, are you readdy for that?  She says yeah, I am getting a tatoo tomorrow.  Has she just found a new formula?  Second verse same as the first.

Grade: B

So the bottom three at the end of the show are:

Toby

Zayra

Jill

No real surprises here, although a lot of people may be appalled about Toby.  He is not changing anything and he is too dependent on others' opinions.  He has no sense of himself, which equates to an ineffective lead singer in rock.

Rockstar:Supernova, Confessionals

So I found a link to this from the MSN home page and did not even pay attention last night.  So let's see what the rockers have to say.

Dilana says she has friends coming into town for the show.  She says she has had no sleep, but that this performance will be really inspired.  This is the best thing that has happened to her.  So she seems more confident in her personal life now.

Storm says she is having a good time despite the stress.  She tells of fights and broken furniture.  She laughs about people googling her.  She says I am here to rock, not as a sex object is implied.  I really don't see Storm having any problems fronting the band.  I also think that she could fight Tommy off quite effectively.  For some reason she does not seem to have to worry about Jason as much.

Toby says the pool is good.  He says that Magni almost drowned after drinking a lot.  Whoa!  Then Toby says he plans to be here a long time, because he has nothing else to do.  Well there is motivation.  He wants to stay because otherwise he will be bored at home.  He warns that he may start playing practical jokes.  I am not sure that this confessional was good for him to do.  It does not show the drive that I think Supernova wants from the front man.

Lukas says it has been crazy putting everything on the line.  He nods to the talent here.  He says some shouldn't be here much longer and he doesn't want to dilute himself.  He seems very honest and at least diplomatic enough to not name names.  He also seemed concerned about losing cred by doing this.  It is very true that hard rock does not tolerate what pop does so this is a big concern that acknowledges.

Dana speaks of the intensity at the house.  She says strategies are emerging, but she will not participate.  She will remain moral and she feels good.  She has apparently received a lot of advice and decides to remain herself.  I respect that, but at the same time can say that "the real Dana" does not fit with the band.  So more power to ya, but move along.

Ryan says the living arrangements are crazy.  He says some people are playing games.  He says that in the next few weeks he will get comfortable in his performance.  Um...we haven't seen that yet, why will it take another couple of weeks?  I hope that he is eliminated before that happens.  He says that he looks forward to getting on the piano and guitar.   He is not a fit and has limited talent.  I can't stand him.

That is all the rockers that confessed to the camera.  Not a lot of surprises here.
