Rockstar:Supernova, Episode 9 Results

Poseur rock chic Brooke is back.  Is this an every third week thing or something?  So we recap this week's shows.  At the mansion, they all toast awesome performances.  They all start theorizing about who will be in the bottom three.  Lukas gives a good PC response to what happens if he is in the bottom three.  Dave says congrats on the best performance show ever.  Half of you will be singing to stay.

Dave says, Storm, you have stood up several times, but never had to sing.  Yet it seems like you want to sing every night.  She answers, anytime to rock for Supernova and sing with the house band is good for me.  Great answer!  She says she will feel good if she gets in the bottom three, because she will kick the snot out of something.  Interesting.  Dave asks will it be hard to say goodbye.  Dilana plays up saying no, and then says yeah, it is like losing a limb.  Well, she is saying the right words.  Who knows about her sincerity.  Then Dave asks Magni about the photo shoot.  Magni sarcastically says, it was wonderful.  Then Dave says, that is part of the gig.  (Guess Dave took his comment the same way that I did.  So there Chris!  Stick out tongue [:P]

So another new song, called "Shine On"  Lukas gets chosen.  Let's see this.

Lukas: "Shine On", Supernova

I am impressed.  Tommy did not write this song.  Lukas sounds good on the song.  I love the chorus.

Grade: A

Dilana has on horns.  Does it surprise anyone that someone from Seattle won the website contest?  Gilby says tomorrow's clinic will be songwriting, where he will assist.

They choose Toby for the encore.  So he and Lukas are more than likely safe tonight.  So he goes all the way to the back and shows that Magni was absolutely right, no lighting.  The crowd singing was barely adequate.  Good performance, although he might should take some advice from Magni.

Amazingly, Magni is the only one that never fell into the bottom three.  Apparently Canada and Austrailia agreed that Magni was better looking than Lukas and Toby.  Well, that does throw a possible wrench into the elimination, assuming two are eliminated tonight.  Brooke claims that Magni has the greatest number of votes, but her analysis is faulty.  I really doubted that she had a math degree anyway, so no big surprise.  So the bottom three are:

Ryan: "Baba O'Riley", The Who

Dana did this song, if you remember her.  Jason is not impressed with the champagne spewing.  He is not fluid in his movements.  They are all jerky.  Gilby does not like the climbing and jumping off of things now.  It has gotten old.  Ryan has become the new Patrice.  He is going to hit himself swinging that mic like that.  The band and Dave are just looking at him like, ho hum.

Grade: B-

Storm: "Helter Skelter", The Beatles

She is so excited.  It amuses Gilby.  So Storm goes over to the band and then falls into Tommy's lap.  Gilby pushes her out.  I bet Tommy wants a six minute break.  She does a good job on the song.  Much better than Patrice did.  Then she crowd surfs.  Good performance.  I think that she may have cut herself with the falling onto Tommy.  Tommy obviously lusts after her and that would create sexual tension.  Although I think that Storm could fend him off, she could fall susceptible and then it would cause problems for the band.

Grade: B+ (The poor judgment hurt her otherwise A- performance.)

Dilana: "Psycho Killer", Talking Heads

So the question is: was it her musical performance or her bagging on all the rockers?  Jason is confused.  Tommy agreed with Gilby about something.  I am not digging this performance.  Jason is not impressed.  Now Tommy looks confused.  Gilby looks bored.  I do not think that this was a good song choice.  The song is weird and her movements are freaky.  Storm just picked Dilana up.  I was not impressed with the stage performance or the song.

Grade: C

Gilby says, Ryan, you have come so far. (Goodbye.)  You were great.  One of the best audience receptions we have, but are you right for the band?  Storm, you have been so solid, but we have not seen growth.  Dilana, that was out of left field.  You seemed lost in the middle.  You have earned so much credit with us, but is it enough to save you.

Tommy says, all of you were awesome.  Ryan, you have come the farthest, but you are the next to go.  Thank goodness I will no longer have to see him.  Dave says you are the most evolved contestant that we have ever had.  Ryan says, I will see you on the record charts.  Jason does not look so convinced.  So the finale will be a final four?  Interesting.  I think that Supernova has made their choice already and barring any Dilana-like episodes from the chosen one, the winner is known.

Rockstar:Supernova, Episode 9

So Brooke achieves tacky, but not slutty tonight (although she barely escapes that one).  She says we are two weeks away from crowning the winner, so are they dropping two each week now?  That sounds promising.  So we recap last week's shows.  You really got to see the glass hit Magni or maybe it was just watching it on the 60" TV that enhanced my view.  Smile [:)]

Dave says, a lot went down last week.  Let's put this behind us, but Magni how is your head.  Magni says, it is a flesh wound; I have cut myself worse shaving.  Dilana turns and says, thank you (for not killing me with an audience here).  Gilby and Jason do not look pleased.  Then Dave goes to Dilana and asks how she is feeling.  She says I am going to rock it.  I stumbled and fell hard, but I am back and stronger than I was before and I will never do anything to hurt my friends again.  Whatever chic, you have already lost my support.

Then they recap song selection.  Dave says, no train wrecks.  Lukas, go.

Lukas: "Lithium", Nirvana

He claims to be everyman with more make-up off-stage.  WOW!  He achieved making the first verse beautiful.  You really felt the emotion and the pause just intensified the effect.  Jason loves it.  The contrast rocks.  I think he has actually improved this song.  And the performance did not scare me, like Dilana's.

Comments:

Dave says, you rearranged a sacred Nirvana song, awesome.  Tommy says, that was talking.  I was captivated.  Gilby says best performance.  Jason says, dynomite.  Good job.

Grade: A

Magni: "I Alone", Live

Magni is concerned about being the bottom three for the third time in a row.  So he decides to start a campaign for other countries to vote for him.  He goes, come on Austrailia, I'm a lot better looking than Toby.  Come on Canada, Lukas, I look better than that.  And Ryan, just because he is American, you don't have to vote for him America.  I learned your language.  Hilarious.  I love it.

He is doing a good job, but I am not sure that it is good enough.  He goes into the crowd and then sings to Supernova.  Nice touch.  Then he walks back through the crowd to jump on stage and nearly gets mobbed.  I fail to see the fascination with rubbing the bald man's head.  Must be me.

Comments:

Dave says he can sing and he almost wishes that Magni had stayed with them, so that he could say that was killer right to his face.  It is down to the roll of the dice.  Tommy wishes that he had gone all the way to the back.  Magni says, I thought that and ruled it out because of lighting and I have to look good.  Gilby says you have always been solid.  Tonight you gave us the extra.  I know you want it.

Grade: B+, It was a good performance, but not up to the standard that I expect at this point.

Ryan: "Clocks", Coldplay

Ryan says, initially he was lost, but now he is gaining momentum.  He feels like he can win if he continues to show himself.  Sour notes to begin with.  So he threw the piano bench, but failed to break it.  Gilby liked it.  Tommy and Jason like the piano jumping.  Tommy loves the whole using the piano as a stage.  It was a really good performance.  I don't like that song, because I am not a huge AC fan.  But it would not be worth turning on the radio with Ryan's version.

Comments:

Dave says, tough night, that was killer.  You have a level of intensity.  Nice to know you are willing to jump on the piano.  Jason says cool, piano and vocal are your forte.  But you seem weaker as a frontman, after we have seen your strength.  He gets booed by the crowd, apparently only a certain section of it, because he then eyes that section like, you dare to question me, you morons.  Gilby says, great performance.

Grade: A

Storm: "Bring Me to Life", Evanescence

She says her voice is very different from Jill and Zayra's and she does not know the song lyrics.  Storm could really pull this out, just perform like Amy Lee.  Of course, that is no small order.  She may be up to it though.  She ruined the beginning by lowering it.  The intro is haunting because of the high register that just chills you.  Like the guy is invading her.  I did not get that feeling at all from Storm's performance.  Jason likes it.  Now I am getting chills.  Don't get me wrong, she is no Amy Lee, but she might be able to learn.  She definitely has potential though.  Kudos to Toby.  he will make it far as a back-up singer.

Comments:

Jason stands to applaud.  Dave said he was worried that it was not in her register, but she pulled it off alright.  Then he nods to Toby and said he stole some of the heat.  He says he remembers Jill's performance and he doubts that he will remember this one.  Is that because this sounded much closer to Evanescence than the abomination that Jill made of the song?  Gilby is off.  Storm apologizes.  Jason says effort counts a lot and you really tried and pulled it off.  Then she adds, and I wore a dress.

Grade: A (A+, but the intro took away from it)

Toby: "Rebel Yell", Billy Idol

He says he has been the joker, but he draws a line when it comes to the job and he can get it done.  He should have pulled the girl on to stage from the audience.  I hate crowd singing.  Toby is doing a good job.  Gilby loves it.  Now he pulls three girls on to stage.  Am I psychic or what?  Now about six girls have climbed on to stage.  Jason loves it.  So here is the honest-to-God breakdown.  Vocally, he did not compare to Lukas' version.  Toby's was merely a good imitation of Billy Idol.    Lukas rivaled Idol on stage when I saw it live.  But stage performance, Toby wins for pulling the girls on stage.  It really took it up another level.  So he wins out there.

Comments:

Jason stands again.  Dave says wow.  He was skeptical that he could pull it off after Lukas.  Toby goes, me too.  Dave says, you were spontaneous, crowd interaction, really strong, good job.  Gilby says, great night for you.  Whole new level on this performance.  Tommy says, God bless you for all you have done.  Then he says invite those girls back to my dressing room.  Toby suggests that they check ID first.  He is not quite as stupid as he looks or sounds when he speaks.

Grade: A (A- Vocals, A+ Stage Performance)

Dilana: "Mother, Mother", Tracy Bonham

Dilana says she sees that it is ok to make mistakes.  She has to get back to the rock n' roll.  She says she is going to use the stage to show her emotions from all week.  Ok, so she did not go acoustic.  Then she starts to climb on the guitarist.  Weird.  She has the right energy, voice, and stage performance.  The song was suited to her well, especially considering the week that she had.  I think she did a good version of it.

Comments:

Dave says, that may be my favorite performance ever on Rockstar.  I can't think of any frontman that hasn't said something stupid to the press.  I am glad that we are moving on.  That was awesome.  Tommy says, say hello to the king of mistakes.  Hopefully we learn from the mistakes.  Gilby says, no bad parts.  Jason says, how was it to blast it.  It was really good.

Grade: A

So this was the first great show.  All of them are actual contenders and they showed that tonight.  I really will not be surprised about any of them being in the bottom three.  There are suitable reasons for all of them to be there, especially with a clueless America.  Sp the bottom three at the end of the show are:

Storm

Ryan

Lukas

Like I said, no surprises here.  Everyone really brought it tonight.  Storm's intro to the song was off and missed the emotion that Amy Lee evokes in the first few bars.  Ryan is just creepy and I don't want him to win, so maybe others agree with me finally.  Lukas changed Nirvana.  America may not forgive that.  I think that they probably wanted to see it in the classic style.  I sincerely doubt that Supernova will eliminate him, even if he does make the bottom three.  He has been pretty consistent and has shown amazing restraint and maturity in the past few weeks.  I say everyone else is pretty much fair game for various reasons.  I do predict that two people may be cut this week.

Rockstar:Supernova, Reality Show: Week 9

So we recap last week's performances.  I don't know if you voted or not on what song each rocker should sing, but it was not a true fans' choice, as it sounds.  MSN gave you a choice of a song that they have sung before or a shot at a song that someone else had performed on the show.  Not what I thought it meant when I logged on to vote, so I guess that we will get to see if America wants encores or different takes on songs.

Part 1: Dilana's Breakdown

Back at the mansion, everyone toasts Patrice (although Dilana seems less than enthusiastic).  They are all quiet.  Dilana says the atmosphere was horrible.  Storm toasts Dilana's first spanking and Dilana says no, I don't want to toast it.  She says, everything I say is taken the wrong way anyway.  Umm, hello.  There were not many ways to take what you said about everyone else.  She even did a half-hearted apology on Wednesday; it was more I am sorry that you are offended, instead of I am sorry for my actions that offended you.  (I really don't expect many of the males to understand the nuance, but I digress.)  Ryan says, I was never mad; I am not strategizing.  Maybe your honesty is just who you are.  I actually have episodes like Dilana, where I tell people exactly what I think of them, but I do not do it behind their backs.  You will always know what I think of you.  I fail to respect two-faced people.  Not to mention that you keep your mouth shut in front of prospective employers.  Why would you soil yourself as negative and petty when you are trying to land a job?  Ryan continues that what she says does not affect him, it affects her.  She has to live with herself.  He chooses not to talk about others, so he can sleep at night.

She says, I thought it was a clinic, so I was not sure if I was supposed to speak my mind or what.  Umm, you are more stupid than I thought.  Yes, it was a clinic teaching you how to deal with real world media.  Regardless of if you thought it was a teaching experience, you should have enough sense at your age to know that the media, in whatever form, will run with negativity and it will reflect badly on you.  Lukas sums it up exactly, "Life is a constant clinic.  You shouldn't change because it is a clinic."  Dilana tries to say, that is why I messed up; I was being myself.  Not a good thing to admit to the band, who will see this, after you just claimed to learn your lesson.  She says she is 34 (I personally thought that she was older.), so she ought to know when to keep her mouth shut by now.  She is losing it and Storm is consoling her.  She excuses herself to go breakdown.  She recaps her weakness and vulnerability during Dave's questioning in the private interview session.

Then we see her throw a glass out at the pool area upon Magni arriving.  He says she hit his face (it appears with maybe the liquid from the glass, or the shattering glass).    It is glass on the front of his bald head.  Lukas is like, what if it had hit his eye.  There is no excuse for throwing glass in the presence of others.  Throw across the pool, whatever, but 34-year-olds should understand that glass shatters in all directions and is thus dangerous to throw when others are around.  Lukas comes in and says that Magni's head is cut open.  That seems a little dramatic for the cut that I saw, but I did have a limited view.  I guess we will see if it requires stitches.  Does propensity for violence get you kicked or an automatic ticket to fronting a band with Tommy Lee?  I am not sure.  Jason might not be up for much hostility after being in Metallica and Gilby just does not seem the type to want confrontation.

Ryan goes to check on Magni.  The blood has created a line that runs from the top of his head bisecting his forehead.  Ryan tells him to wash it up and let him take a look.  Meanwhile, Lukas starts retelling the story to Storm and Toby.  Lukas questions her ability (in general terms) to handle the daily stress if she freaks out over an incident like this.  He says, Supernova should consider that.  I agree 150%.  Dilana needs to go.  Everyone is given a bye this week, as Dilana is sent home for her violent tendencies.  Any chance she had of redeeming her two-faced butt just evaporated for me.  I don't care how good she is.

Next we hear Dilana sobbing and saying that she is sorry to Magni, while Storm is holding her and consoling her.  Toby says he fails to understand, because she has had the sweetest ride here (this was her first real criticism).  Ryan says some people can't handle being on top; she is self-destructing.  If you will note in one of the first few weeks in my blog, I predicted that she did not seem up to the stress level that this competition would inflict.

She tried to talk herself out of her funk and we see her sitting in a window ledge.

Part 2: Photo Shoot

Dilana is wondering how she is going to get through the day.  Storm says that she used to model.  No big surprise there.  Storm starts crawling across the table in very provocative ways.

The photographer is telling Toby to pretend he is on stage.  He is nervouse and starts jumping on the couch and making strange facecs.

Lukas goes, I am no model.  This is a crash course.  It will capture me in a freeze frame.  He classifies himself as goth glam.  I'll buy that.  Even though his style fits Supernova, the photos do not seem to portray the band.  But they still portray him.  I know, one of those chicken-egg paradoxes.

The photographer tells Ryan to smile that he has enough of the tough sexy photos.  Ryan says, I don't know how.  The photographer slams him and says people will not come to your concert like that.

Magni says he has done a lot of photo shoots.  He is having trouble pretending.  The photographer tells him to do a screaming shot, then afterwards tells him, now scream, without screaming.  They are reviewing the photos and he tells Magni that one of the shots is like a psycho look, and he does not like that.  Tommy might though.  He wants to be scared.  Magni says it was horrible and he was never going through it again.  Not your choice.

Dilana does not have the right attitude anymore.  She has lost her confidence.  Near the end, she started getting her attitude back, but it seemed halfway.

Then they find out that song selection was up to fans.  So Lukas got "Lithium".  He promises that it will be interesting and different from Dilana's.  Toby got "Rebel Yell".  Magni got "I Alone."  Storm got "Bring Me to Life"; she is the one rocker of the entire original 15 that might do that song justice.  Ryan got "Clocks".    Dilana got "Mother, Mother".  She says that she is ready to show that she is back.  So they all toast the fans.

Part 3: Rehearsal

Lukas says he does not like "Lithium", so he wants to change it.  He says rehearsal was normal, having to work things out.  The house band says that he sounds very un-Nirvana.  Hey guys, that is not necessarily a bad thing.  Why try to imitate?  It may make some people mad that he doesn't like Nirvana, but to each his own, especially if he can change it and make it better.  Paul is freaking out.  Lukas asked for horns and wants to make it all beautiful.  Paul is saying, not as memorable as Dilana's, because she loved the song.  You know, Paul's estimation at rehearsals have often been wrong, so I will hold out.  Although I do hesitate to completely condemn it, because Superrnova likes Nirvana, so they may hate a radical change to the song.

Dilana is doing "Mother, Mother" acoustic?  She is going to screw it up like Jill.  You must scream and have the power to the chorus or you miss the point of the song.  It is all about the contrast between the words that she writes and reality.

Part 4: The credits

Ryan sounds awful. The photographer poses them for a group shot and then suggests they repeat it naked.  Ryan and Dilana are keen on it.  The others, not so much.

Rockstar:Supernova, Episode 8 Results

We have poseur "rocker chic" Brooke back.  So we recap last night's performances.  I just realized that Lukas raised his eyebrow at Dilana's inserting her name into the song.  I agree.

At the mansion, Dilana pays a back-handed compliment to Ryan that his song rocked with the house band.  Without them, you would have been nothing.  That is the most twisted compliment ever.  She is screwing with his mind.  Then she gets him out on the patio and says I get more votes than you because I have given it my all from week 1.  But she seems on the decline from week 1.  Weeks 2, 3, and 4 she was it.  Now her performances are fair.  Ryan on the other hand has stepped it up each week.  She tries, I'm not getting a dig at you.  (I'm just being honest.)  Magni retorts, we're growing; you're just doing the same thing over and over again.  I would have taken it a step further and said you are on the decline.  Then they knock her eyelashes.

Then they check out fan sites online.  Everyone is touched by the fans' comments.  Someone comments that it is down to Dilana and Ryan (where's Lukas, he just rolls his eyes) and it would be cool to choose both of them.  Dilana starts going, no, no, no.  Ryan is like, I can't believe this.  She is jumping over the line.  Then she says that she would shoot him.  She says over my dead body.

Dave says, what a ruckus.  Dilana, I am shocked by your attitude.  Dilana, says sorry and I love you Ryan.  She says she wants to be the solo, not share the stage.  Dave says what about the house band comment? No, I wasn't joking, and gets booed.  Oh, yes I was, I didn't mean it.  Oops, too late.  Dilana just slit her throat.  Bu-bye.  She should shut up now.  Dave says what would any of you be.  Are you threatened by Ryan?  She says not at all.  I've done my best and it is all I can do.

Ryan says that is the nicest thing that I have heard her say in weeks.  She goes, whatever under her breath.  As he continues that it is not cool to pee on those below you, she starts getting so mad.   I think that she may honestly tear him apart.

Dave adjourns this bloodbath.  Then we see the rehearsal with Supernova.  Magni sounds awful.  Everyone sounded fine, except Magni.  They choose Toby. This is a good performance of the new Supernova song.  He is suited well to this song.  Not bad.

Grade: A

Then we recap the reality show.  I love Lukas' eyebrows.  That is awesome.  Dave says that was unbelievable.  What are you thinking?  Every week you perform awesome.  You never bag on your peers.  I have done that.  She tries to say that she wants to protect Lukas, because she feels like a mother dove.  Must be a South African thing.  Lukas says thanks, but no thanks.  He is mad.  This is a learning process and I screwed up, so I apologize to everyone that I may have offended.  I am human and I will learn from this.  But tonight she did the same thing.  Maybe she only leans after being called out.  So she has no conscience.  Dave says, I can respect that, but why would you say that.  I am too honest she says.

Lukas, what is your reaction.  He says that he is not surprised.  I have to live with it literally.  I am bigger than that.  Dave says that you are all going to have to grow thick skins from this.  We all walk around with targets.  You will be a winner from a reality show and thus a prime target.  Dilana looks like she may get sick.

So the bottom three are:

Magni: "Fire", Jimi Hendrix

Jason shows disbelief.  Jason is so excited.  It pales in comparison to the original, but it is an excellent choice in this instance.  He gets to show his stage performance and guitar playing.  Good job.

Comments: Tommy calls it ridiculous.  (Code for good.)

Grade: A-

Patrice: "Middle of the Road", The Pretenders

She says she did an arrangement for Gilby.  Jason is not diggin it.  This is just not going to work.  Gilby looks like, this is very fair.  This is definitely going to send her home.  It is just not right for Supernova and it still feels the same as every other week.  She has some fever blister or something.  Get make-up to handle that.  Magni lets her wipe the blood away on her red shirt.  Chris won't even do that for me, or at least I imagine he won't.

Grade: C

Toby: "Plush", Stone Temple Pilots

Tommy says I am getting a complex.  Toby swears no more stripping.  He goes and sings with Magni.  Nice stage presence.  Much better performance of this song than Magni did.  Then he lets the crowd members share his mic.  He does justice to the song, although it still pales to the original.

Grade: A+

It's obvious who is headed home.  Gilby says, Patrice I am glad that you shared an original with the world, but this your fourth trip to the bottom three.  Magni, two weeks in a row in the bottom three, but a killer version of "Fire".  Toby, we thought you were good enough to sing with us, but being in the bottom three should make you think.  Go think over there.

Tommy says Patrice, we have to axe you because fans do buy our tickets.  It kills us to do this though.  They give her a standing O.  Dave says congrats.  Patrice says this tops what I have done.

So next week is the first week of actual contenders.   Let the fun begin!

Rockstar:Supernova, Episode 8

Brooke's dress looks like a conglomeration of rags.  It is awful, but not slutty.  So we recap last week's shows, as well as the reality show.  There is an extended scene that shows they applied the same reasoning to Ryan getting an original that they did to Patrice.  I really think that they chose those two to try to make them implode.

Dave says to Storm, you gave in again.  What's up?  Storm says I am not scared of anything and I love these people.  Ryan says his song is fit for Supernova.  Patrice, how important was it to do an original?  She says that she is confident in her songwriting and why she is here.  So she goes first.

Patrice: "Beautiful Thing", Patrice Pike

Same song, different verse from every other week.  The lyrics are better than Tommy's last week.  The song does not fit Supernova, but it is not bad.

Comments:

Dave says that she brought it and he thought she did well.  Then he goes, if you want to do this type of material, you should go solo.  Tommy says he liked it.  It is kind of happy for us, but we could slow it down, make it heavier.  Jason asks how it was to debut to this many people?  She said awesome.

Grade: B

Magni: "Smells Like Teen Spirit", Nirvana

Jason is not convinced that this is good.  Magni lacks the energy for the song.  The performance is par for the course.  I don't like his voice when he starts screaming.  He does a good job on the verse.

Comments:

Dave says good job, you put the angst into your performance when you need it.  Jason thought that the enrgy was good.  Tommy asked why you didn't play guitar.  You could have smashed the guitar after the first verse.  Then Dave says he wants to see something smashed before the season is over.

Grade: B+

Ryan: "Back of Your Car", Ryan Star

Supernova is diggin it.  The song is good and Supernova could definitely improve it.  I still hate to look at him.  But he is stepping it up.  He just posed out by throwing the guitar.  He didn't even break it.  That last note was sour.  I hate having to give him good grades.

Comments:

Dave asks where did this guy come from?  Ditching the guitar was cool.  Ryan says he got laid and that is the explanation for the change.  Tommy stands up to congratulate him.  Gilby says you have had some memorable performances in the last few weeks, but that was your best.

Grade: A

Storm: "Cryin", Aerosmith

This is not up to her usual performance standard.  Gilby is like blah.  She is starting to implode.  She can't handle the pressure of this many weeks.  She almost made it without freaky eyes and then they escape at the end.

Comments:

Dave says awesome.  This was 1000 times better.  Tommy says cool.  Less clothes though.  Gilby says strong singer, strong performer, but make it memorable.  Jason says I liked that you made it your own.

Grade: B+

Dilana: "Every Breath You Take", The Police

So she does it classically.  She has some freaky eyelashes going on.  Chris thinks you should make this a creepy stalker song and rock it out.  She inserted her name in there.  This was good and showed that she can sing.

Comments:

Dave says she looks like Bambi with the eyelashes.  Gilby says he enjoys her performances.  Jason asks why run naked for this song.  She says it was a challenge to sing it, because it is her mom's favorite song and she hasn't spoken to her in years.

Grade: A-

Toby: "Layla", Derek & The Dominos

I like this version.  I hate the original.  I turn it every time.  This arrangement really makes the song rock.  Right up until he does the crowd singing.  What EVS stand for?  Someone please enlighten me.  This rocked.

Comments:

EVS means whatever.  Dave says he brought it.  Tommy says the ladies loved it.  Gilby says you took a risk and I didn't like the arrangement, but the performance made up for it.  Gilby is just wrong.

Grade: A+

Lukas: "All These Things That I've Done", The Killers

Jason is unsure.  The intro rocked.  Gilby is not impressed.  Why does he keep singing to the bamd?  The performance was fair, because he kept turning his back on the audience.

Comments:

Dave says unbelievable, great job.  Tommy says check, please.  Gilby says great job.  Why turn your back on us?  Gilby says it confuses me.  We'll cover you.  Jason says good job overall.

Grade: B+

So the bottom three at the end of the show are:

Patrice

Storm

Toby

It really surprises me that Toby is in the bottom three.  Apparently America doesn't like people messing with Eric Clapton classics.  He ultimately must be eliminated anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Rockstar:Supernova, Reality Show: Week 8

Part 1: The Media

So we recap last week's shows.  Then they all toast Zayra at the mansion.  They all say that they miss her.  Then everyone cheers Dilana for fronting Supernova.  Storm says that Dilana singing that song sold her on it.  I still thought that the song sucked.  Dilana's performance was fine, but the song basically just sucked.  Dilana says that now she cannot see anyone else fronting the band.  She has started some serious head games.  Then they toast Ryan for getting a second encore.  Toby smashes something in Ryan's face.

The media shows up at the mansion.  Lukas says that this is part of the game and you have to know how to handle it.  Lukas says yeah he listened to these guys.  He had sex for the first time to "Unforgiven."  Nice to share.  Toby says he enjoys the press and you never know what they are going to say.  The reporter asks Toby if he thinks that he will survive a year with Supernova if he is chosen.  Toby responds, it depends on what medicines are being created right now.  He will definitely need a sobering pill to be invented.

Storm gets interveiwed by a woman, who says that she shakes hands like a man.  That is how you are supposed to shake hands, FYI.  Not like some sissy girl!  Jamie White (the woman interveiwing Storm) is from some radio station, 98.7 Star.  Storm says that she was by far the toughest; some people came out limping.  Jamie instantly buses her saying, there is nothing about you that makes someone go, that is the girl.  Storm is dumbfounded.  I think that she is devising vicious things to do to this woman.  She tells Toby that he is not all "tatted out" and when he defends that he has 5, how many does she have.  She says, it is not about me.  So her cred to question is not on the line, ok, whatever.  She asks Magni, who do you think said that they don't like you.  He calls her mean and tells her to chill.

Then she asks Ryan, who has said something negative about you.  (Everyone.)  He goes, well you just did, right?  Right on.  There is no reason that a real rock band would put up with this type of interview technique.  Ryan says that it is a big responsibility to front Supernova and you have to know what you are talking about before you get out there.  Then Jamie asks if Ryan feels that Dilana has the edge right now.  He answers yes and starts elaborating on why when Jason walks in.  Let me give you the answer that Ryan should have given.  Dilana is an awesome rocker and it is very rare to find a girl that can front a rock group, much less one the caliber of Supernova.  I think that America is responding to this rarity, but I do not feel that it gives her an edge with Supernova, who has the ultimate decision.

Jason says there is a lot of crash course stuff with this and it all comes down to representation.  The reporter then asks Lukas, is anyone just playing a part?  Jason is listening when Lukas affirms that he thinks that.  The reporter presses Lukas for an identity when Lukas says that he does not want to dog anybody.  The Rolling Stone reporter says that won't look good in my mag.  Too bad, dude!  Lukas says, ok, well.  Jason smiles and the reporter laughs.

Rolling Stone questions Dilana.  She says that she doesn't think that everyone is as serious as she is.  Some of them are just along for the ride as far as they can be.  He asks her to name those people.  She claims it is hard to do that because they are all family, but then she calls out Toby.  There is no mistaking that Toby is here to have fun and does not have the same deisire that Lukas and Dilana do, not to mention the talent,  However, this is a test and you still have to live with these people at the end of the day.  They can still screw with your life and screw your chances with Supernova.  I think that this was an unwise decision.  Then she says that Magni wants to be with his family.  They could travel with him, FYI.  Not ideal, but they would be together.

Then she says that some of the rockers were coming up and saying that the lyrics to the song that she performed with Supernova sucked, when they first heard it.  I agree completely.  Dilana says that she loved it.  Dilana also comes up with "cornball" lyrics, to quote Jason.  "Pat-a-cake" sounds great to her lyrically.  I really lost a lot of respect for dilana with this comment.  She should have at least acknowledged that the song was lacking.  She sells out Storm for hating the lyrics.  Way to go Storm!   Of course, that was obvious from the toasts at the dinner table.  She says Ryan hated it too.  Then he says, well who shouldn't still be here?  She calls out Patrice.  Jason states that when you talk negatively about others in the press that there are repurcussions.  EXACTLY!  Be prepared for the bottom three Dilana.

Jamie then says, there has to be some conflict in the house.  Dilana says, we are like family.  Jamie presses her and she says, I want to strangle Lukas every day.  That is because he is her real competition.  Dilana makes it sound like he has multiple personalities and then she says she just wants to punch him.

Next is Lukas.  Jamie says, what is up with the sunglasses.  He says that he is hungover, but he can take them off, baby.  She brings up Dilana's comment and Lukas expresses surprise.  Jamie spins it that Dilana wants to save him.  That is such a lie!  Lukas tells Jamie that Dilana should mind her own business.  Later, he says that Dilana should not say that type stuff in front of a camera.  That she is way uninformed.  Then Jamie says that everyone has said that he has been the most difficult and he is coming off as a *** to her.  I fail to see that.  Granted this interview has been edited, but it does noot seem that way at all.  Failing to respond to questions like the ones that she is posing are a sign of good judgment.  He says, I am just filtering it in right now.  Off-camera he says that he is not going to smile and laugh at her laughing at me.  I agree.  He says that he was seconds away from telling her to take a flying leap.  Then the interview ends.  Lukas remains composed and exits.  Kudos to him.

Jason says that it is allowable to treat disrespectful media disrepectfully.  So maybe he thinks that Lukas should have bitten back a little more.

Lukas and Ryan discuss Dilana's comments.  He advises people to think before you speak.  He says to say it to him is one thing, but to say it to the media crosses the line of professional and makes you a punk.

Part 2: Song Selection

Toby finds the songs this week.  There are two originals this week.  Ryan (I think it is his voice) says that he is taking it for sure.  Toby says he wants one because his song totally   rocks.  Ryan goes, oh yeah, mine does too.  That was stupid to say Toby.  Storm says that she only wants an original and nothing else.  She says that she has rolled over to this point and not fought.  It sounds like she may be getting her gloves on.  Then she says I'll put gloves on and fight anyone.

Ryan says he won't box her for a song.  Her violence is disturbing.  Patrice says she will stay up all night on her feet and not eat and not sleep for an original.  Wow, is that the best that you can do?  She doesn't want to fight, but she wants to do one of these songs.  Magni thinks that Patrice has earned the right to one from being in the bottom three three times.  There is some logic for you.  They said five people wanted it, so who are the ones that don't?   They vote and Patrice gets one.  Storm ends up taking "Cryin" by Aerosmith, because nobody else wants it.

She does not sound so great on it.  Magni plays guitar for her and she ends up on his lap hugging his face to her chest.  He comments that his wife will probably not be happy and she says that she is sitting on him like a brother.  He said, I have three brothers and this has never happened.  Ryan apparently got the other original.

Toby and Dilana both wanted "Every Breath You Take."  Toby says that he needs it, because he hasn't had any moments.  Sucks to be you.  He says he just screwed with Dilana to get payback.  So she ran around the pool naked, because she is tough and has a hot body she said.  Patrice says Toby that is the biggest smile you have had and he says yeah, because I didn't want that song.  Someone says she looks like a 12-year-old boy with a wig.

Dilana says that this is her mom's favorite song.  She thinks that this will be her strongest performance.  So she is singing along to the music, changing then she screeches.  She says that she is trying to go falsetto, but that is not working.  Toby says that he wants to tell her to shut up.  Lukas thought it was a dog, no kidding.

Part 3: Rehearsal

Toby got "Layla."  He says that he has yet to smash them in the face yet, so he constantly fears being in the bottom three.  He might have actually improved that song.  I don't like Eric Clapton though.

Magni has "Sounds Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana.  He has the flu, not a good sign.  He can't possibly get the energy for that song being sick.

Ryan says his song is called "Back of Your Car."  It is a high-energy, fun, dirty rock song.  We'll see.  He says that he has a task in front of him to make sure that it represents him.  He thinks that it is right up Superrnova's alley.  Paul says that he likes the song and that Ryan sings it well.  Paul seems annoyed with Ryan's micromanagement of the band.  Ryan even told one of the guitarists to do a "dance move".  This is too much dude.  Don't make the band mad.  Ryan says it has to be amazing, because he has no more excuses.

Part 4:  The credits

They show Toby, Dilana and Ryan questioning if their performances will work.  Then they show some outtake type footage.  Interesting week with all the media and stupid comments made.

Rockstar:Supernova, Episode 7 Results

Tonight we see poseur Brooke the rock chic.  The look just doesn't work for her.  Then we recap this week's shows.

Back at the mansion, Storm says she got smashed.  She says it was tough to sit through.  Lukas thinks Storm will be in the bottom three.  Storm she says she has no problem with her performance.  If they don't like it, that is their issue.  She knows that she is good enough.  You have to respect that she doesn't kowtow to the band like Toby.  She stands by her performance and interpretation of the song.  I really think that she could have rocked "I Will Survive" if she had taken it from a mad standpoint.  Imagine Flyleaf (a band I hate) doing the song and you have an idea of the version I am talking about.  (Although Chris says she whines more than screams, but you get the point.)

So Dave says compelling viewing and goes to Storm.  He says they panned it, even though the audience loved it.  Storm says she gave it 1000% with the time and material that she had.  Dave brings up the Cake version and the irony in that version and that he did not see that in this performance.  She wasn't going for ironic Dave; she was going for sincerity like the original version.  Dave says he respects that she is the one that can take that type of criticism out of all of them.

Next up is Toby.  Dave says people like to see you naked.  Toby says it was getting boring in the house and that livened it up a bit.  This week he says that he is willing to run down Melrose Avenue naked for the song that he wants.

Jason says that they have an announcement to make.  Gilby says there is a lot of talent among the eight of them and that they are ready to play this week.  The crowd cheers.  Tommy says we are not declaring a winner, but we need to test someone out.  So the rockers had another new Supernova track this week.  Then they went to the studio to record it.  Magni sounded best on the snippet.

Dilana gets the first live performance with Supernova.  Let's see how she does tonight.  I'm not digging her singing this song.  I really don't think that it is her fault though.  Tommy definitely wrote this song.  It does not have the Metallica or Guns 'N Roses caliber to it.  She does a good job singing and fronting the band.  The chics dancing around her with this song seems strange.  Put some men around the babe instead.

Dave says they were awesome.  Dave says now you have seen what is at stake, kick it up a notch.  He says we saw four hot chics with Supernova, so he apparently does not think that Dilana is hot.

Jason says that was fun, good chemistry, good vibe.  The contest is not over.  The prize is not anyone's yet.  He says he liked the dancing girls.  Tommy says where they are from.  This week's encore is Ryan.  He did a really great job.  I am so diappointed.

Dave says that he is surprised that Magni was in the bottom three at one point, as he is with Storm.  So the bottom three are:

Zayra: Blue October, "Razor Blade"

No surprises there.  Blue October has become one of my favorite bands since this year's EdgeFest.  Gilby is like, oh my.  I recommend checking out the original.  It is an awesome song.  Dave is like what am I watching?  This is awful.  Blue October needs to file an assault charge.  That was awful.

Grade: F

Patrice: Hole, "Celebrity Skin"

Jason thinks it is weird and I agree.  She missed the vibe of the song.  She's walking; she's not jumping.  When will this be over?  I did not like it, but she only had a Courtney Love song to potentially abominate and that is a lesser violation than abominating a Blue October song.  That was bad.  It is actually one of the few Hole songs I like.

Grade: D

Magni: "Creep", Radiohead

Storm looks upset.  Magni says that this is the anthem of our generation.  Our "Satisfaction" or something.  He sticks much closer to the original than Lukas did.  Of course, he has time to do the whole song.  Very good stagee performance.  Everyone is cheering but Lukas.  Dilana is crying.  I feel like he did a really good job on this song, but I felt like Lukas' version packed more emotion.  I definitely feel like Magni has made himself a contender the past few weeks.

Grade: A

Gilby says Zayra, we like risk.  You took a risk doing your own song and then another with a song that we don't know.  They are missing out not knowing this song, but they might not recognize it even if they were familiar with it.  I love that song and I only recognized it from the chorus.  Patrice, we have enjoyed the performances, but they keep getting you in the bottom three.  We have to consider that.  Magni, we liked you last night and tonight.  You are so far from going home, go sit down.

Tommy says...Patrice we think you have potential for Supernova.  Zayra, you have to go.

Dave says you have delivered some of the most compelling performances that this show has seen in two seasons.  Zayra says this is the craziest rollercoaster ever.  I am so proud to be part of it.  No one believes that I have been here so long.  Tell me about it.  Jason says he will be one of her biggest fans.  Then Dave closes by saying her name right.  Way to go Dave!

Finally, it looks like we have a real competition now.  Although I predict that Patrice will be the next to go.  She is very stylized and can't seem to rock it enough for this band.

Rockstar:Supernova, Episode 7

So Brooke does not achieve slutty, but she does find an outfit that only the purple people eater could love.  Maybe she is trying to expand her base audience.  Then Dave decides to strip off his shirt and Tommy follows for the "stripped-down" show.  This week is totally acoustic, in other words.

We recap the reality show.  Toby tells Jason that he is smashed.  Nobody woke up until almost 5 pm.  Dave says the censors got to him and Tommy, so they had to get dressed.  Then Dave lays into them about not fighting for the original song.  Jason says a few of you were chosen for your songwriting and originalness.  Gilby says a lot of you seem to think that you will be around long enough that you will have a chance later, but you need to fight for it everytime.  Then he says Toby, I dig that you ran around naked for me.  Umm...yeah.  He calls Zayra to the stage.

Zayra: Zayra Alvarez, "Lluvia Del Mar"

The song has a good beat and it is a very beautiful song.  Yet, it still does not fit Supernova.  Not to mention only about 50% of America at most understands it.  Her outfit is very mild this week, considering half of her body is covered and the other half is her bra.

Comments:

Dave says congrats for fighting for your original song and performing it.  The guys have all stopped criticizing her.  I fail to understand why, but whatever.  Dave says terrific and great job, very beautiful song.  Tommy says good job, Massive Attack (?) is one of his favorite bands and it had hints of that.  Zayra nods and says love it.  But he is not sure that it is right for Supernova.  Pretty cool, he says.  Gilby says beautiful song, but what about what you would give us?  Jason asks how it felt, then says it was beautiful.

Grade: B

Magni: David Bowie, "Starman"

The white suit is a little much.  This whole performance seems Vegas to me.  I expect more out of Magni.  This seems very blaze, especially after last week's performance.  It just doesn't cut it for me.

Comments:

Tommy says he rocked it.  Gilby says he is solid, great singer, good performance.  Gilby says you missed leading the crowd singing la, la, la.  Jason asks if this is the most dressed up he has been.

Grade: B-

Patrice: The Police, "Message in a Bottle"

She fails to get the crowd into it.  Gilby and Tommy both look bored.  Her vocals are good; I love the sound that she adds to it.  Yet she fails to get the emotion of the song across.  I feel no urgency in the song when she sings it.  I think that she failed overall.

Comments:

Dave says that he liked the liberties she took at the end, but it lacked intensity.  The vocals were good though.  Gilby says he wanted more originality, but she sang it well.  Dave says I know you feel hammered, but I know you are a great performer and I want to see it every time.  She looks like she just gave up completely after these comments.

Grade: C-

Lukas: Chad Kroeger, "Hero"

Contest is over.  There is no need to continue.

Comments:

Dave says he loved it.  Tommy says he loves it, but he hates it when people sit.  Gilby says incredible with the falsetto.  Jason says you closed off on some of it here.

Grade: A+++

Storm: Gloria Gaynor, "I Will Survive"

Gilby looks bored.  She does some funky dance and Tommy is like, what is that?  Jason is like this is not good.  This arrangement is not bad and I respect that she tried to rock it out, but I like disco.  Strange, I know.  And I love the original.  Chris loves this arrangement, but he's got no clue.  I can't put my finger on why this doesn't do it for me, but it doesn't.

Comments:

Dave says the audience loves you.  Last season, Marty made "Hit Me Baby (One More Time)" work (he actually rocked that song out and I hate that song); Dilana got Cyndi Lauper and made it work; that just didn't work; I hated that.  Storm tries to play it off as I went to Vegas and in 48 hours woke up to Gloria Gaynor.  It is your job to fight for a song that you can do or change it.  That was the main point of this week's competition.  Tommy says it was sauteed in wrong sauce.  I kinda want my money back.  Storm is shocked.  She can't even say anything.  She got put in her place tonight.  Gilby says that he did not like it either.  Gilby says you all are the final 8, we expect better out of you.  We've weeded out the bad singing, etc.  She closes with, it's ok, I like spanking.

Grade: C-

Toby: Peter Gabriel, "Solsbury Hill"

I hate this song.  I turn it every time.  He starts the crowd clapping, that's good.  Tommy does not seem impressed.  Toby starts playing the bongos.  Jason loves it and starts playing air bongos.  Tommy looks less than amused.  This really did not seem great to me, but I do have a bias against the song.

Comments:

Dave says great going the extra mile to rock.  You did a great job on the vocals.  Toby says yeah, and I love Panic Channel.  Dave says, oh yeah, best performance of the night.  Kissing up works wonders.  Gilby says awesome.  Tommy says no question about your commitment after you ran around naked.  He says welcome, oh and nice butt.

Grade: B

Ryan: Phil Collins, "In the Air"

Nice choice on the piano, but I don't like the way his voice sounds.  He does a good job.  Tommy likes it.  Jason likes the power he is packing.  I hate this dude.  I just want him to go away.  Why is he picking up his performances now?  Make like a tree and leave.  He is killing me.  I hate this.

Comments:

Dave says vocally very dramatic and intense, best performance of the night.  Dave is just wrong.  Lukas was best.  Gilby says that he has enjoyed the transformation and extra effort.  Jason says that we see you are trying and working hard.

Grade: A

Dilana: Harry Chapin, "Cat's in the Cradle"

I don't like this song.  I never have.  The song really doesn't work being sung by a woman.  Tommy likes it.  I don't see that she did anything different with it.  It was a good karaoke version, but nothing special.

Comments:

Dave says best perrformance of the night, by far.  He says he still has chills after the song.  Jason says the modern feel on that quiet classic worked.  Gilby says he liked the low register and then she rocked it on the high register.  Don't let up though.  She says, I won't, because I told you, I am the one.

Grade: B

So the bottom three at the end of the show are:

Patrice

Toby

Zayra

No surprises here.  Patrice lacked the intensity needed at this level.  Toby gave a fair performance among tonight's performances.  Zayra is just so far off on this competition that America will eventually get her eliminated.

Rockstar:Supernova, Reality Show Week 7

Part 1: Las Vegas

We recap last week's episodes.  So the Lukas blew it on purpose theory was blown out of the water with the "Creep" performance.

Then they show the airport with the jet waiting.  Everybody is excited and agrees that this is the best.  Storm warns Magni that Vegas is trippy.  Then she tells the alcohol on board and called it "very VIP treatment".  They get off the plane and go to the Hard Rock.  They see the memoribilia from Supernova.  Then they head to "The Joint".

Jason says the main reason for this trip was to show them the place where they would perform.  Storm says it solidified it for her.  Ryan says it helped him and everyone else to see what was at stake.  Then they walk into the presidential suite.  It is crazy.  It has a bowling alley in the suite.

Dilana then tells Tommy, I am the one.  I can draw a crowd;   I can hang with the boys.  They toast the "Super 8".  Ryan dares Gilby to bowl the ball at his head.  I prayed he would hit his head and cause permanent damage where he is physically unable to sing.  Unfortunately, God has been too good to me lately; all my wishes are up.  Then Ryan says there are beautiful girls walking around.  Magni says the party was "out of this world."  Zayra looks like she is humping Storm on the bowling lane.  Toby is messed up bad.  Jason says I am constantly watching, because they reflect on the band at all times and I will not have people laugh at me.  But you have Tommy Lee?  I won't go into the contradictions here; Chris doesn't have enough webspace.

Lukas and Toby were passed out and Ryan says I am not passing up my chance by being stupid.

Part 2: Song Selection

Cut to mansion.  Storm says they were rough.  Dilana decides she is not ready to sleep, so she goes and harasses Lukas.  She pours water in his navel and starts putting her finger in there.  Then rubs it on his lips.  It takes a few seconds for him to rouse.  Then he licks his lips, ugh!  Dilana says it is her b-day and she wants to party.  Dilana ties Toby's legs and he complained very little.  No surprise there.

So Ryan finds the songs.  Everyone is unplugged this week.  Gilby is on "Solsbury Hill."  Everyone says they want the song with Gilby.  Although many of them seem to be just saying it to say it.  Ryan really wants the original.  Magni says let's fight.  Toby says he really wants it with Gilby.  Dilana says she really wants it too.  So Dilana dares him to run around the pool nude.  He says he was still half-drunk, so it seemed like a good idea.  She played him like a card.  Jason will see this and eliminate Toby immediately.  She eliminated him when she was just fighting for the song to be hard-nosed.  She would have given it to him anyway.  He jumped in the pool on the way around.  They all laugh at him.

Ryan and Zayra are fighting over the original.  Zayra thinks adding reallys makes it more hers.  Toby and Zayra say that he can kill "In the Air Tonight".  Ryan agrees after Magni helps him on the piano.  Zayra says he is thinking that she will kill herself.  She says that is the way she wants to go down.

Part 3: Rehearsal

Zayra wrote her own song, called "Lluvia del Mar".  It has to be unplugged, in her defense.  Paul says we just learned your song, it is really pretty simple.  Then she starts singing.  It is in Spanish.  Ummm....  What do I say?  Is she aware that this is not Sabado Gigante?  She says it is a big risk.  This is the moment that I have been waiting for.  Yeah, me too Zayra.  Yolur outfit may finally not save you this week.

Paul says "Solsbury Hill" is a strange song, because Toby is not sure of the rhythm or melody.  Paul says Toby is always intense and never comfortable in rehearsal.

Storm sounds really good on "I Will Survive".  She is trying lots of different ways.  Try the Cake version.  Paul says she is in distress.  Then she tries Sarah McLachlan style.  Paul says the arrangement was not set at the end of rehearsal.

Part 4:  The credits

They celebrate Dilana's b-day.

So it seems like Zayra has taken this self-promotion to a whole new level by choosing to compose a song so out of line with Supernova.  It is just insane.  If they don't eliminate her this week, I will be truly shocked.

Rockstar:Supernova, Episode 6 Results

Brooke continues in her tacky, slutty apparel week.  Then we recap this week's shows.  The rockers celebrate at the mansion.  Then Jill sits there and jumps on everybody about not jumping for the song with Gilby.  Storm defends herself and Jill says I already proved myself.  Storm says they thought you sucked, more or less.  Toby comments on the catfighting.  Storm says she does not feel pressured to perform with them.  Zayra says you need to choose the song right for your voice, not just the one that Supernova plays on.  I agree to a point, but you also need the talent to adapt a song to your voice.  Lukas and Dilana have done that time and again. They also need to see if they can handle Supernova.

Dave says that was interesting.  He questions Storm as to why she thinks that Gilby knows she can rock with them?  Gilby says it is a question of chemistry when you sing.  Dilana was awesome.  Tommy says Ryan is coming out, but you look a little uncomfortable. Gilby says last night was great.  Tonight's survivors go to Vegas on a private jet and go to the Hard Rock.  Jason says one of the best shows ever.  It was all up a notch or two.

They choose to do 2 encores.  The first is Lukas.   I think he did a better job tonight.  Then they ask Magni to plug it in for his encore.  Another really good performance.

Now to the bottom three:

Jill: "Respect", Aretha Franklin

Gilby says third time in the bottom three, but you have saved yourself every time.  I really question this choice.  It is already bad with the changed music.  Jason is not pleased.  This is awful.  She just eliminated herself.  She makes horrible creative choices.  Gilby is clapping and smiling.  (Yeah, I got a reason to eliminate her.)

Grade: C

Josh: "Shooting Star", Bad Company

Tommy says he is getting a complex.  Tommy blames the guitar and doesn't think that America likes Josh in front of him.  Josh says I am playing my guitar again tonight and Tommy is very surprised.  He may have gotten himself eliminated too.  He is just not kicking it up like the other performers have.  I think that he just saved Jill, because he seems to have gotten to the point of disregard about fitting Supernova.  The head thing is annoying tonight.  He needed a rock song to save himself.  Now he has made the decision hard on elimination.

Grade: C

Ryan: "Enjoy the Silence", Depeche Mode

Kind of shocking, actually.   Jason says he is surprised.  Ryan says he is confused.  Jason says maybe the variety was too much for America.  He says he changed the arrangement.  Jason is studying the performance.  I actually like the arrangement.  He lost his mic there for a line or two.  I am not sure he keeps the sentiment intact though.  He almost fell off stage.  He is safe.

Grade: A

Gilby says that they don't agree.  Jill, three times in the bottom three.  America is trying to tell us something.  Josh, your voice is great, but will it cut through the guitars.  Ryan, first trip here.  You have been building on some momentum.  We question your stage presence.  We think you deserve another chance, so go sit down.  On to Tommy.

Tommy eliminated both of them.  So Jill and Josh both go home tonight.  Dave says Josh you are a great singer and Jill your performance last night was one of your best.  (That does not sat so much though.)

Josh says he knew from the get-go that he was in a different vein.  So apparently he just used the show for publicity.

Jason said both of your spirits will be missed here.

So the big "surprise" is the elimination of two people, but they both had to go anyway.
